Operation Sidlaw Continues | Further Action Against Road Crime & Vehicle ASB 🚔

On 27 and 28 August, officers from the East Wight Neighbourhood Team carried out a further Operation Sidlaw deployment across the East Wight area. The operation was supported by colleagues from Intelligence, the Area Crime Team, and the Joint Operations Unit, ensuring a coordinated approach to tackling road crime, antisocial behaviour, and wider criminality.

You said that dangerous driving, excessive vehicle noise, and vehicle-related antisocial behaviour were causing concern in your community.
We did conduct targeted Operation Sidlaw patrols, focusing on identified hotspot locations, enforcing road traffic legislation, and taking action against those responsible for criminality and vehicle ASB.
The operation proved highly successful, with officers dealing with a range of offences and taking positive action against those responsible. This included arrests and enforcement in relation to:
✅ Dangerous driving
✅ Disqualified driving
✅ Driving without insurance
✅ Drug driving offences
✅ Aggravated Taking Without Owner's Consent (TWOC)
✅ Possession of an offensive weapon in a public place
✅ Possession of a Class B controlled drug
✅ Failing to stop for police
✅ Vehicle-related antisocial behaviour (ASB)
✅ Breaches of the Road Vehicles Construction and Use Regulations 1986
The operation also resulted in a number of arrests, the seizure of several vehicles, and the issuance of Out of Court Disposals (OOCDs), demonstrating a robust approach to tackling offending and improving road safety across the East Wight.
Our work did not stop there. During the final hour of the operation, officers conducted patrols in known Operation Sidlaw hotspots in Sandown and Ryde, focusing on vehicle ASB and excessive vehicle noise. As a result, further enforcement action was taken, with additional drivers being issued tickets for vehicles found to be in breach of the Road Vehicles Construction and Use Regulations 1986, including vehicles with excessively noisy or non compliant exhaust systems.
These results highlight the effectiveness of joint working and demonstrate our continued commitment to tackling dangerous driving, vehicle related ASB, and wider criminality across the East Wight. We understand the impact that vehicle ASB, excessive noise, and dangerous driving can have on our communities and will continue to act on information provided by the public to target those causing harm and disruption.
